Guest of the Wedding Dresses

Summer is undeniably the time for weddings.  Not for this blogger, but most certainly for this blogger's dear friends and family.  Nordstrom has made me very happy with this link, a whole trove of dresses particularly suited for the "Guest of the Wedding," i.e., me (and maybe you).  (p.s. is it just me, or do I seem to be using more adverbs than usual? hmmm...) While there are some dresses on the Nordstrom site that might fly (sadly, there are many dresses on the link that are so inappropriate for weddings that I could write a whole other post about "what not to wear from the Nordstrom 'guest of the wedding' site to a wedding), I'm shopping all over the web to find darling and elegant dresses to wear to this summer's (and next spring) weddings.  I must say, if I'm having this much fun picking out dresses to wear as a guest to the wedding, I can't even imagine the excitement of picking out the perfect white suit to wear on my lunch-break J.O.P. wedding.  For real, ya'll.
From J.Crew; Cotton Taffeta Gabby Dress. I Love Navy. It is the new black. Seriously, you just read a factual statement there. I love it with gold and with silver. Perf. $225
(Dear Kendal, If you read my blog, I'd like this to be my bridesmaid dress - no pressure, but cute, right?)
Alice + Olivia Bree tie-dye dress; $495
A little more casual, but depending on the wedding it could totally fly... right into my closet.
Also loving this Blakely dress from the Crew, too. $235
I really think this is an elegant color. And I'm LOVING the ruffles.
I'm not actually sure if you can wear caftans to weddings.
But, if you can, I'd wear this one by Temperley London; $1620

I adore (read ADORE) the Herve Leger Bandage Dress; $1450
I also adore this color; although there are tons of other great colors.
OK, so Maybe not actually "wedding guest" appropriate. But I really REALLY like this - depending on who your friends are, I think someone could totally get away with this.
Stella McCartney Backless Tuxedo Dress; $1285
LOVE!
Thread Social Embroidered silk one-shoulder dress; $695
J.Crew Alexis lace-trimmed silk dress; $200

MIXED PRINTS

I ascribe to the following two fashion ideals: 1. neutral solids are beautiful, timely and classic; and 2. if you're going to do prints, DO. PRINTS.  So, when I came across the "Mixed Prints" Sale on Gilt, I swooned.  Hard, ya'll.  I am currently planning out my wardrobe for the following week and scouring my closet for all the prints I own that can be coordinated into eye-concoctions based on these lovely outfits:
Yarnz Tie-Dye Scarf

Yarnz Neo Zebra Scarf

Reem Acra Jumpsuit

Rebecca Minkoff Clutch

Ali Ro Dress

Piazza Sempione Printed Woven Silk Trench

Sunday

Happy Sunday! I hope you all are enjoying this perfect day! After thursday, this day is my absolute favorite day of the week, and thankfully, seems to stretch on forever. Today I'm busy
creating budding branch floral arrangements,
watching basketball,
baking muffin-scones, and
perusing Paris Fashion-week designers' spring collections:
Paul and Joe's Savoure floral-print playsuit, $540 net-a-porter
Chloe's Marcie Large Leather Tote, $1820 net-a-porter
Chloe Pleated silk-crepe dress,  $2115, net-a-porter
Yves Saint Laurent Belted satin-jersey one-shouldered gown, $2350 net-a-porter
Yves Saint Laurent Clover-print silk shirt dress, $2490 net-a-porter
Yves Saint Laurent Fake Chic crystal ring, $795 net-a-porter
Vanessa Bruno printed woven silk maxi dress, $1115 net-a-porter
...After seeing blooming trees all week and these spring fashions, I am so super excited for spring. (Note: this excitement will soon fade into a strong and unflinching hate for spring and summer and sun and warm temperatures and allergies and the like.)

The Gilded and Glittered Holiday

My father hates glitter.  From a young age, I remember attempting to bring glittered crafts home from school and sunday school but being stopped short of entering the car.  I don't remember tears, but I'm sure there were some as I was forced to stuff anything glitter into a bag (or worse, being thrown away) before getting in the car for fear that some of that magical glitter would escape and be forever embedded into the car's upholstery.  But my father's hatred of glitter didn't end with my sisters' or my childhood- just the other day he went into a christmas store, and as the story goes, was appalled by all the glitter on everything and was nervous that some of it would get on his shoes.  Needless to say, that visit was short.
I tell this anecdote because, unlike my father, I LOVE GLITTER.  I love sequins, and shiny metallics and gilded everything.  I love the silvers and the golds and the icy blues of the holiday season.  I love things dipped in glue and then dipped in glitter, and if some of the glitter falls off, it just makes everything merrier... right?  This post is about all the lovely glitters of the holiday that are showing up in fashion and accessories and are absolutely perfect for the upcoming days.  Do not shy away from mixing as many as these amazing finds together as you can.  It's the holidays!  Go Glittery! (p.s. I need to find a holiday party asap to wear these amazing things... scratch that, I need to find a job so that I can buy these things...)
Gem-Laden Snood (circle scarf) from J.Crew $99
Disco Sequined Silk-Chiffon Jacket by J.Crew from Net-A-Porter $495
Sequined crept T-shirt by Vince, from Net-A-Porter: $295

DAY Birger et Mikkelsen Night Sparkling sequin-embellished silk waistcoat $355
(...and this is exactly what I was looking for to wear to law prom.  Why, oh why am I always a season early with my ideas?)
(I LOVE LOVE LOVE this... paired with some opaque tights and booties and a sequined hair bow)
Falling Snowflakes Necklace from Ann Taylor $138
...in other news, I'm an official licensed Texas attorney... scary and exciting all at the same time!  Now I'm just waiting for a prosecutor position to open up somewhere (read anywhere) in Texas.

Fashion Sunday. (on Thursday)

Bar Review Blows.  Like, it is actually the worst.  I am so un-excited about the next three months.
There, I said it.
And there, I'm done with the negativity.
Because... Memorial day is quickly approaching, which marks the official start to summer, or as I often like to refer to it, the official start to wearing white again.  Because, as we all know, the archaic fashion rules that be dictate no wearing of white after Labor Day.  But, as that day lingers far off beyond the haze of summer, let us embrace wearing white!
Lilly Pulitzer makes dressing for any summer function extremely easy with the "Little White Dress" section of its website.
I am a HUGE fan of Lilly's Pearce Dress.  So cute and flirty and sweet.

I also cannot get enough of this dress with the adorable bows on the back.
Lilly's Taryn Dress
Turning to more simplified looks, it took some hunting around various websites to find the following white gems to brighten up any summer day... especially those days where studying fills each and every agenda line...

Lounge Lover's Linen-jersey Jumpsuit.  If only we could all pull off this amazing jumpsuit!
TOO Cute, James Perse Drawstring Flannel shirtdress with soft tailoring for perfect summer days.
And lastly, in honor of White and the many, many weddings that will be had in upcoming June, perhaps we should turn to the ultimate white dress- the wedding gown.  Let the Swoon-fest ensue with the following, absolutely gorgeous, effortlessly gorgeous, completely timeless, abounding luxurious gown by Vera Wang

Fashion Sunday.

First things first... This post is not meant to advocate the wearing of "comfy" clothes on a daily basis.  Typically, I try to shy away from comfy outfits because, well, let's face it, they usually lack any semblance of style.  However, now that bar review classes are upon us (me) and long commutes and long study days are the norm, I find myself putting away structured dresses and jackets and opting for something a little more "livable."
In light of these changed circumstances, let us look at comfy, yet stylish looks perfect for bar review, walking around, or just enjoying the summer:
L'Agence Jersey cross-back maxi-dress found here:

Adidas by Stella McCartney Organic jersey shorts for a truly comfortable look, found here.

Adidas by Stella McCartney Organic cotton track top found here

and of course, denim! These jeans (sans heels, of COURSE) are super great and super comfy from J. Crew, here.  They are the vintage slim jean and fit me perfectly!
As you can see, this wasn't at all my usual fashion forward post.  BUT, we don't always need over-the-top fashion- sometimes, we all need a little comfort!

Fashion Sunday.

Well folks, after sleeping for 12.5 hours, I figure I ought to do something productive.  I made a little eggs benedict for b-fast and am watching a marathon of Season 3 of 30 Rock while I ponder packing (and putting my life back together after the law finals tornado that ripped through my apt while I wasn't looking)... but before all that- let's embrace that it is now officially summer... how do I know this?  It's like a bazillion degrees in my 4th story studio apartment.  No really, a bazillion.

In honor of the bazillion degrees in here and the summer outside, let's talk some cute summer clothes:

swoon-fest ensue: A denim vest by citizens of humanity; buy it here:

and this, yes, this:

and of course, topped off (bottomed off?) with an amazing pair of these:

Enjoy this lovely Sunday!
